Richard Stevens demands Birmingham/Manchester service

10.26.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 23rd May 2007

Stone Town Council last night agreed to write to the Department for Transport to ask that the new railway service planned to stop at Stone Station next year should be a Manchester/Birmingham service - not the proposed Crewe to Euston service.

Cllr. Richard Stevens asked the new Town Council to endorse the decision of the previous council supporting a service between Birmingham and Manchester. "Stone is a commuter town for many people who work in these cities and who would use a train service if it was provided," said Richard. "The currently proposed service will appeal to very few people and is not likely;y to be used very much at all."

"I am delighted that the new Town Council endorsed the plea for a revised service. I intend to ask the Borough Council to back our demands as well."
